Meet them all.
Every animal has a name, a story, and a home here for life. Click any resident to read their full profile.
Adair
Adair is a Standardbred mare who spent years as an Amish driving horse, pulling carts day after day until her body finally said enough. When she could no longer work, she was taken to a slaughterhouse. Another rescue pulled her out before it was too late, and we got the call. She lives at Soft Landing now, in a pasture with no cart in sight -- and has developed an impressive talent for convincing visitors she is gravely injured when she is absolutely fine.
Meet Adair →
Andi
Andi is a steady, easygoing donkey who arrived as part of a rehoming and has been a reliable presence on the property ever since. He is not the loudest animal here or the most demanding, but he is always there -- standing quietly at the fence, watching the day unfold, doing exactly what he does best.
Meet Andi →
Beak Witherspoon
Tiny but determined ? she won't back down from anyone.
Meet Beak Witherspoon →
Binx
Binx came to us as a foster alongside his brother Oogie Boogie, and the arrangement was never supposed to be permanent. It became permanent. The two of them settled in so completely and so immediately that sending them anywhere else stopped being a conversation anyone wanted to have.
Meet Binx →
Butterscotch
As sweet-tempered as she sounds ? she loves nothing more than a good cuddle.
Meet Butterscotch →
Cassian
Cassian was thrown from a moving car at a dog show in Athens. Kerigan and her fiance were in the crowd when it happened and did not hesitate for a moment. He came home with them that same day and has since settled into life at Soft Landing with a calm that, given where he started, is nothing short of remarkable.
Meet Cassian →
Cinnamon
A warm reddish-brown beauty who is first in line for every meal.
Meet Cinnamon →
Cluck Norris
Don't let the fluffy feathers fool you ? this hen rules the roost.
Meet Cluck Norris →
Cowboy
Cowboy showed up one day and decided to stay. Nobody knows exactly where he came from or how he found us. He kept his distance for a long time -- watching, sizing things up -- before eventually deciding that Soft Landing met his standards. He allows petting now, on his schedule, which is more than we expected and everything we hoped for.
Meet Cowboy →
Crackers
Named for her favorite snack, which she will steal directly from your hand.
Meet Crackers →

Meet Duchess →

The glamour queen who always has her feathers perfectly in place.
Meet Feather Locklear →
Fedellia
Fedellia came through as a foster and had everything figured out within the first 48 hours. He found his spot, learned the schedule, and made it clear he was not a temporary situation. He is one of the easiest animals on the property to care for, which he knows and uses to his full advantage.
Meet Fedellia →
Fidget
Fidget came to us with his brother Flip and has never once sat still long enough to explain the name. He is the first to investigate anything new on the property, the first to arrive at feeding time, and the first to make his presence known when something is not to his liking. He is a lot, and we would not have it any other way.
Meet Fidget →
Flip
Flip and his brother Fidget have been together since before they came to us and have not been apart a day since. Where Fidget charges ahead, Flip follows at a measured pace -- curious about everything, committed to nothing until Fidget confirms it is safe. It is a system, and it works.
Meet Flip →
Gingie
Gingie is an orange tabby with an easy temperament and a talent for being exactly where he should be. He came through as a foster and made himself at home without any fuss. He is affectionate, adaptable, and genuinely content -- the kind of animal that makes every room a little warmer just by being in it.
Meet Gingie →
Goldie Hen
Her golden-brown feathers practically glow in the afternoon sun.
Meet Goldie Hen →
Hazel Grace
Hazel Grace is thirty years old and has lived enough life for several animals her size. She was pulled from a kill lot with no future ahead of her -- and when she arrived at Soft Landing, we discovered she was pregnant. She foaled here, in safety, surrounded by people who were rooting for her. She is retired now, comfortable, and deeply unimpressed by almost everything, which she has more than earned the right to be.
Meet Hazel Grace →
Henrietta
The matriarch of the Chicken Castle ? she keeps everyone in line.
Meet Henrietta →
Lady Cluckington

She won't eat unless her food is freshly scattered. Standards, darling.
Meet Miss Prissy →
Moxie

Meet Moxie →
Nugget
She finds that nickname deeply offensive and would like you to know it.
Meet Nugget →
Ollie
Ollie is steady, dependable, and almost impossible to rattle. He arrived without much fuss, found his place in the herd, and has been quietly holding things together ever since. He is not the most dramatic animal on the property -- not by a long shot -- but he may be the most reliably content.
Meet Ollie →
Oogie Boogie
Oogie Boogie arrived with his brother Binx as a foster, which was never going to stay temporary. He has strong opinions about mealtimes, sleeping arrangements, and personal space, and he communicates them clearly. He is a lot of personality packed into one cat. This is exactly the right place for him.
Meet Oogie Boogie →
Opal
Opal was rescued from a drug house where conditions were not fit for any living thing. He came in with his sister Odette, but Odette did not survive. Opal did. He was guarded at first, and we gave him all the time he needed. He is still working on trusting the world -- but he gets a little braver every day, and every day it shows.
Meet Opal →

Tiny, speckled, and full of opinions she is not shy about sharing.
Meet Pepper →
Peter Porker
Peter Porker is a house pig who knows it and lives accordingly. He has a schedule, a routine, and strong feelings about both. He is one of the longest-tenured residents at Soft Landing and carries himself with the confidence of an animal who has never once been told he does not belong indoors.

Princess Lay-a
She lays her eggs only in the most dramatic locations possible.
Meet Princess Lay-a →
River
River came to us from another rescue, carrying a condition called RingBone -- a chronic deterioration of the bones in his lower legs and hooves that has no known cure. Our farrier has worked with River consistently and found ways to give him real relief. River does not ask for much. He just wants a quiet pasture and people who will keep showing up for him. We are.
Meet River →
Rocket
Rocket's owners had to move to the city and could not take him along. It was not a decision made lightly. He came to Soft Landing, found the flock, and figured out fairly quickly that things were going to be fine.
Meet Rocket →
Rooster
Rooster was hit by a car as a puppy. His owner brought him to the vet, then walked out -- telling them to put Rooster down because he could not afford the surgery. The vet amputated the leg instead, then found us. He arrived at Soft Landing on three legs with an attitude that suggests he has never once considered feeling sorry for himself.
Meet Rooster →
Ruby
Bright red comb, even brighter personality.
Meet Ruby →
Sgt. Menace
Sgt. Menace was found in a dumpster in Kentucky by Tom, who drove him straight to us and asked if we could help. We could. He has since settled into Soft Landing with the quiet authority of someone who has been through something hard and come out the other side with his dignity fully intact.
Meet Sgt. Menace →
Star Lord
Star Lord was raised in the house in actual diapers, handled like a person from his very first days. He never forgot it. He leads the flock now with the unshakeable confidence of someone who grew up with full access to the couch and the kitchen.
Meet Star Lord →
Storm
Found during a thunderstorm and has been fearless every day since.
Meet Storm →
Sunny Side Up
Always looking on the bright side ? this girl has never had a bad day.
Meet Sunny Side Up →
Thunder
Thunder is a miniature poodle with a gentle soul and some hard history behind him. He came to us showing signs that his previous life had not been kind, and he still startles easily around new people. He is getting better, steadily and on his own terms, and every small step forward is one he has earned entirely himself.
Meet Thunder →
Tilly Ann
Tilly Ann was the first animal born at Soft Landing -- delivered right here on the property by Tracy. She has never known anything but this place and these people, and it shows in everything about her. She belongs here in a way that is hard to put into words, because she was born into it.
Meet Tilly Ann →
Tina
Tina is a Heritage Turkey and the unofficial observer of everything that happens at Soft Landing. She wanders, she watches, and she occasionally inserts herself into situations that do not require her input. She has been here long enough that nobody questions her presence anywhere on the property.
Meet Tina →
Uintah
The runt of her litter, Uintah had a case of soda dropped on her head as a newborn, triggering seizures that left her first family convinced she would not survive. Tracy brought her home and stayed up for weeks nursing her back to health. She made it. She is now our midnight guardian -- a Great Pyrenees who patrols the sanctuary every night, keeping watch over all 52 animals without being asked.
Meet Uintah →
Winnifred
Winnifred -- known around here as Face-Eater -- is a cat of strong and unpredictable feelings. He can be extraordinarily affectionate one moment and deeply offended the next, for reasons that are entirely his own. We love him without reservation. We also know better than to surprise him.
Meet Winnifred →
Yoda
Yoda is a quiet, watchful sheep who arrived at Soft Landing and found his place in the flock without any fuss. He is calm by nature and steady by choice, and he has a way of appearing in unexpected places just when you forgot to look for him. He is content here. You can tell.
Meet Yoda →
Ralphie
Ralphie is one of our two resident steers and the undisputed escape artist of Soft Landing. He has tested every fence on the property and found the weak spots in all of them.
Meet Ralphie →
Jethro
Jethro is Ralphie's calmer, more sensible companion. Where Ralphie looks for the exit, Jethro is usually standing in the middle of the pasture looking pleasantly unbothered.
Meet Jethro →
